AbbVie's Skyrizi Gets FDA Approval For Pediatric Use
By Stephen Nakrosis
Pharmaceutical maker AbbVie said the Food and Drug Administration approved its Skyrizi to treat pediatric patients with psoriasis.
Skyrizi, or risankizumab-rzaa, will be available to patients aged six years and older to treat moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis or active psoriatic arthritis, the company said. A new 55 mg pre-filled syringe has been approved for patients weighing less than 40 kg, or about 88 lbs, while those over that weight may use the currently available 150 mg PFS and Pen.
AbbVie said about 30% of people who develop psoriasis experience symptoms before age 18.
Skyrizi is also used to treat adults with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, active psoriatic arthritis, moderate to severe Crohn's disease, and moderate to severe ulcerative colitis, AbbVie said.
