Novartis Says MS Pill Helped Control Disease With Favorable Safety Data in Trials

By Adria Calatayud

Novartis said its experimental multiple sclerosis pill achieved a significant reduction in symptom flare-ups in the most common form of the disease with a favorable safety profile in two late-stage studies.

The Swiss drugmaker said Friday that the studies showed its medicine--known as remibrutinib and marketed as Rhapsido for a skin condition--achieved reductions in the annualized relapse rate of 35.2% and 31.2% compared with Sanofi's Aubagio, meeting the primary goal of both trials.

This translated into one relapse every 13 years, the company said.

No liver safety signal was observed, Novartis said.

Novartis Chief Medical Officer Shreeram Aradhye said the study results point to the drug's potential to support long-term disease management by combining high efficacy with a favorable safety profile.
