S&P Global 3Q Net Up, Mulls Capital IQ Platform Spinoff

S&P Global posted third-quarter net income growth and the credit-ratings firm boosted its sales projection and unveiled plans for a potential spin-off its Capital IQ research platform.

The provider of credit ratings, indices and data analytics posted net income of $1.24 billion, or $4.25 a share, up from $1.18 billion, or $3.86 or a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-off items, S&P Global logged adjusted earnings $4.58 of a share, handily beating the mean analyst estimate of $4.43 a share, according to a poll of analysts at FactSet.

Revenue rose 7% to $3.68 billion, exceeding the average analyst expectation of $3.64 billion, as per FactSet. A modest 2% increase in ratings revenue to $1.27 billion was offset by robust 20% growth in indices revenue to $554 million.

Volatility in bond markets has caused slowdowns in debt issuance in some sectors of the economy, even as artificial-intelligence firms borrow vast sums.

S&P Global is exploring alternatives for Capital IQ and associated data operations, including a potential spinoff. The operations under review would include most of the Kensho Data & Platforms section of S&P's Market Intelligence unit. Currently, S&P expects to retain the RatingsDirect, RatingsXpress, and Enterprise Solutions operations.

In July, S&P completed its spin-off of its Mobility unit, creating an independent public company called Mobility Global.

For 2026, the company projected earnings between $16.25 and $16.50 a share, compared with a previous estimated range of $16.35-to-$16.60 a share.

S&P now anticipates adjusted 2026 earnings in a range between $17.70 and $17.95 a share, up from a prior projection of $17.50-to-$17.75 a share. S&P Global boosted its forecast for 2026 revenue growth, and now anticipates a 7.4%-to-8.4% increase, compared with the prior estimate of 5.9% to 7.9%.
