Danone Sales Grow Amid North America Turnaround Efforts — Update
By Aimee Look
Danone said like-for-like sales grew in the third quarter, as the French food company seeks to revive its North America business, which is grappling with falling volumes.
The company is mapping out the revival of its North America business, slotting in new leadership and looking at product growth beyond high protein, like gut-friendly Kefir.
Danone, which makes Activia yogurt and Evian water, had 2.4% like-for-like sales growth for its North America business, with volume mix falling 0.6%.
"We have taken decisive actions to further step up execution and sustainably restore performance," Chief Executive Antoine de Saint-Affrique wrote in a statement, referring to the North America business.
Execution seems to be a bottleneck for Danone, Barclays's Warren Ackerman said. "Clearly execution hasn't been where Danone need it to be as capacity has come on," the analyst wrote in a note. Its results have also shown that the company is more than just a U.S. dairy business, he added.
Overall, like-for-like sales grew 4% for the three months. Analysts expected growth of 3.7%, according to company-compiled consensus estimates.
Danone backed its full-year expectations of like-for-like sales growth between 3% and 5%.
