BNP Paribas Earnings Climb on Boost From Trading
By Michael Hennessey
BNP Paribas reported an increase in earnings for the third quarter, boosted by a strong performance for its equities and prime brokerage arm.
The French bank said Wednesday that net profit climbed to 3.46 billion euros ($3.85 billion) for the third quarter, up from 3.04 billion euros a year prior. The print beat analyst expectations of 3.23 billion euros, according to a consensus of estimates provided by the bank.
The bottom line was boosted by revenue growth of 9.45% to 13.76 billion euros, ahead of analyst expectations of 13.50 billion euros.
Corporate and institutional banking led the increase in third-quarter revenue, with a jump of 17%. This was helped by 22% growth in the global markets segment, driven by equity and prime services, while the fixed income performance was "stable."
The bank's CET1 ratio--a measure of capital strength--fell slightly to 12.9% at the end of September from 13.0% at the end of June. BNP Paribas said it expects the ratio to be above 13% at the end of 2026. It previously forecast a CET1 ratio of 13% for the end of 2027.
The bank also confirmed its 2026 and 2028 forecasts. This includes annual net profit growth of more than 10% versus 2025's level through 2028.
"The group achieved a very strong third quarter driven by the operating performance across all three divisions," said Chief Executive Officer Jean-Laurent Bonnafe.
